Today’s match is between the 2nd and 3rd placing teams in the league. It is expected to be an exciting match with Hornet FC wanting to take revenge on Mean Machines FC as we had lost the 1st meeting 5-1.

We were the underdogs going into this match but we played with all our hearts out. Although we had only 11 players available today, our spirits were high and we want to win them in order to close our gaps with them. With the champion basically out of our reach, we were all aiming to get the 2nd placing.

Seow Chuan gave us the lead in the 10th minute, after Mean Machines FC had attacked us from the start of the match. Weiqiang had dribbled to the bye line and he squared the ball into the path of Seow Chuan, who made no mistakes to tap the ball into the empty net. However, the lead was short lived as Mean Machines FC scored twice in the 20th and 35th minute to take over the lead. Despite the setbacks, we did not let out heads down and we continued to play hard. Both sides created a lot of goalmouth chances. In the 42nd minute, we finally got our deserved equalizer when Chuan Seng broke the offside trap and he dribbled past the goalkeeper before running into the net.

Mean Machines FC took the lead again against the run of play in the 49th minute and they extended their lead further to 4-2 in the 62nd minute. Instead of giving up, we continued to fight hard and in the 75th minute, Weiqiang took a quick corner to Chuan Seng whose pass found Yusrizal. He dribbled past a defender before volleying the ball into the goal. Sensing a fightback is on the card, we upped our attack and 7 minutes later, a upfield pass by Amin found Weiqiang and with a turn, he volleyed the ball into the net, leaving the goalkeeper with no chances at all.

Mean Machines FC and Hornet FC fought hard to get the lead and the match saw penalty of goalmouth actions but both side could not score. As the match is going towards a draw, we were rewarded a corner in the 88th minute. Razali swing a cross to the far post and Hazmi was at the receiving end to head the winning goal into the net. Mean Machines FC attacked harder and threw more players up front, but we managed to hold on till the final whistle.

A great victory for Hornet FC and big credits to both teams for a great and exciting match. As the league is drawing to a close with 5 games remaining, this victory is important for us to keep us in the fight for 2nd spot.
