Hornet FC built on last week victory to continue their climb up the league standing by defeating Tusser Ranger 2-0. Hornet FC took a sweet revenge as both team played a friendly before the AFL league started with Hornet FC losing 3-0. The Hornets were determined not to let history repeat.

Both teams started the match brightly and it was end to end actions in the match. Hornet FC had expected the way Tusser Ranger play and Dominic and Mervin did very well to deny their flanks from playing their usual football. Binnson, the stand-in goalkeeper for Boon Chen also had a great game denying Tusser Ranger’s strikers. In the 11th minute, a beautiful through ball by Ruiqiang found Chuan Seng and he found himself unmarked. With only the goalkeeper to beat, he placed the ball beautifully into the bottom left. With the 1 goal lead, Hornet FC slowly take control of the game. Ruiqiang had a chance to extend the lead but he found the side netting. Tusser Ranger FC had found the defence wall hard to break with Caiyuan leading the charges.

In the 2nd half, Hornet FC attacked hard to get the 2nd goal and it came in the 47th minute when Weiqiang, after 2 weeks of confinement in tekong, dispossessed their defender in the penalty area and he slotted the ball into the net. Hornet FC did not stopped attacking and 10 minutes later, Ruiqiang was fouled inside the box. When everyone thought it was a penalty, the referee awarded an indirect free-kick to Hornet FC. The Hornets protested against the decision but to no valid. From the resulting free kick, Ruiqiang’s shot was deflected for a corner. Tusser Ranger did not let their heads down and they too attacked hard. Ruiqiang, Kenny, Weiqiang and Seow Chuan all came close to extending the lead. In the 88th minute, Razali’s long ball found Ruiqiang and he volleyed the ball into the net. The ball had gone through a hole in the net and the referee somehow thought the ball had went over. Hornet FC protested and even showed the referee the hole in the net but the referee remained unconvinced. What a dismay for Hornet FC as this goal would surely kill any hopes for Tusser Ranger. Hornet FC hold on to the 2 goals lead till the final whistle.

After match thoughts: A great victory and a sweet revenge for Hornet FC. This is our 1st clean sheet, lets build on it. Build on with this victory to get better league standing too.
